Favorite Music

Thursday, April 8, 2010

A wide variety of musicians, including B.B. King, Jerry Lee Lewis, Aretha Franklin, Eightball & MJG, Elvis Presley, Ike Turner, and Three Six Mafia have proudly proclaimed Memphis as their hometown. As a matter of fact, Memphis has more musicians per capita than any other city! It is because of this that the city has become so well known for its array of music. Within the city, genres such as blues, rock and roll, country, hip-hop, and classical can be heard. Music is a central theme at most events throughout the city, and is specifically celebrated for three days during Memphis in May’s Music Festival. Here are ways that you can participate with April 8th Spirit of Memphis Music Day!

Dress-up Theme Day

You can dress up like your favorite Memphis musicians. This can range from the popular Elvis to the hip Justin Timberlake. It’s up to you; be creative! For those who aren’t up for the head-to-toe attire idea, you can just wear a shirt of your favorite musician or music that is affiliated with Memphis. Don’t have a shirt? Try anything from a hat to a lapel pin. Just show your Spirit!

Memphis Tribute Karaoke

Know somebody with a karaoke machine? If so, you are in for a treat when you see your friends singing to Memphis music! Your friends will have a great time singing along with their favorite rock ‘n’ roll or blues songs. Laugh all you want, but remember you might be next to show off your vocal skills!

Memphis Music Swap

Listen, share, and talk about your favorite music in Memphis! If they like what they hear they will be inclined to support Memphis by going out and buying the music.

Host Your Own Concert

Many citizens are looking to get out and see a great musical show. Help the citizens out by hosting your own show at your venue and contact the Spirit of Memphis so that we can post the event on our website to help promote your concert!
